Greg Michael Guitar Studio In Colliers Wood Proudly Presents:

Guitar Evening with American blues and roots guitarist Toby Walker and supporting acts: John Gregory Aka Blue John and the local duo Giant George.

WORLD-renowned American blues and roots music guitarist Toby Walker is looking forward to bringing his UK tour – his first for several years – to Colour House Theatre in Abbey Mills.

The fingerstyle guitar virtuoso and songwriter, known for his exceptional musicianship and his highly entertaining performances, can’t wait to cross the Atlantic again in September 2019.

Walker, who has toured the globe many times, blends blues, ragtime, country, bluegrass, rock and old time jazz into his own unique style, wowing the public, the critics and his peers alike – and he is also an acclaimed guitar instructor too.

Jorma Kaukonen of Hot Tuna and the Jefferson Airplane said about Toby: “Flat out…you have to hear this great musician…I’m blown away.

Happy Traum described him as “A fingerpicking guitar virtuoso”.

Muddy Waters’ guitarist Steady Rollin’ Bob Margolin said: As a blues guitar player, I am stunned and in awe of Toby Walker’s pickin’!

Carnegie Hall acknowledged his rare talents and hired him to augment and teach as part of its’ American Roots program aimed at honor level middle school students.

Toby’S passion for blues, rags, folk, and other traditional American music drove him to leave an apartment crammed full of recordings, books and instruments for the Mississippi Delta, Virginia and the Carolinas where he tracked down some of the more obscure – but immensely talented – music makers of an earlier era. He learned directly from Eugene Powell, James ‘Son’ Thomas, Etta Baker, and R.L Burnside, among others.

At the Abbey Mills show there be opening performances by fingerpicking guitarist and singer John Gregory (AKA Blue John) and Greg Michael and his band Giant George

John has previously opened shows for a number of top American blues and roots music artists including Ari Eisinger, Joe Filisko and Eric Noden, John Miller and Grant Dermody, the Fabulous Thunderbirds and many others and has teamed up for several concerts with Dr Phil – Mississippi John Hurt’s biographer Dr Philip Ratcliffe.

In April 2018 John flew to Chicago to play his hero Big Bill Broonzy’s 1946 Martin guitar.

Giant George are a local duo consisting of Greg Michael, guitarist and guitar teacher, and Deborah Champion, singer and player of any instrument she can! They play a highly energetic mixture of traditional fingerstyle ragtime blues, country, rockabilly and rock and roll music using different combinations of instruments including: acoustic guitar, steel resonator guitar, clarinet, saxophone, guitarlele, keyboard, washboard and occasionally even the upturned kitchen scales…
